HANDS is a voluntary program for new and expecting parents that supports families as they build healthy, safe environments for the best possible growth and development of their child.

Your HANDS home visitor will provide personalized tips to help you stay healthy during pregnancy, covering everything from nutrition and rest to what to expect at doctor’s visits. Whether it’s your first baby or your fifth, we’re here to support you every step of the way with care that’s focused on you and your growing baby.
From tummy time to story time, your HANDS visitor will share fun, age-appropriate activities that help your baby learn and grow. These special moments don’t just support brain development, they help build a stronger bond between you and your child, too.

HANDS (Health Access Nurturing Development Services) is a free, voluntary home visiting program that supports families during pregnancy and early childhood. We provide guidance, education, and support to help children grow and families thrive.
You may qualify for HANDS if you are pregnant or have a child less than 90 days old.
You do not have to be low-income or meet strict requirements. If you want extra support, and you are pregnant or less than 90 days postpartum, you may qualify.

HANDS is designed for any family that wants to learn, prepare, and feel more confident in raising a child.
We work one-on-one with families to:
HANDS visits are voluntary, flexible, and based on your comfort level.
We work with you, not over you. Visits are relaxed, supportive, and focused on helping your family. It is a home-based program, so home visits are required (special circumstances may apply).
Yes. HANDS is completely free to families. We are reimbursed through a variety of funding streams. You will never receive a bill or statement.
Yes. Your privacy is respected. Information is kept confidential in accordance with public health guidelines.

Contact the Lewis County Health Department to enroll or learn more about HANDS. We’ll walk you through the next step by scheduling a survey. Each survey participant will receive free baby items and a gift card, no commitment required.
You may qualify for services if you or your loved one is currently pregnant or your baby is less than 90 days old.
You will meet with our HANDS Supervisor, Shanda Frye, LSW, who will walk you through the enrollment process.

Shanda is the HANDS Supervisor at the Lewis County Health Department. She is passionate about supporting families and helping parents feel confident in raising their children.
